Customer Payout Providers

A customer payout product sends money from a business, platform, wallet, or payment account to an approved recipient. It is not automatically the same service as merchant settlement, a card refund, marketplace seller payout, or Merchant of Record remittance. This directory includes exact offers recorded for customer payouts and preserves whether the provider, a connected bank, a PSP, or a network actually moves the funds.

Last reviewed

19 company profiles

Reviewed customer payout products

Each listed offer explicitly includes customer payouts and ties them to the exact product configuration through outbound payout details, payout orchestration, or a platform's pay-ins and payouts responsibility. Seller remittance and marketplace-only payout products are outside this list. Some providers move funds; others coordinate a connected bank, network or PSP. Confirm that boundary, funding account, recipient, rail, currency and return handling.

Banking Circle

Banking Circle is a Luxembourg-licensed B2B bank that provides regulated financial institutions, payment businesses, banks and eligible investment funds with multi-currency accounts, virtual-account structures, local and cross-border payments, agency and correspondent banking, safeguarding accounts, foreign exchange and liquidity services. Banking Circle's direct client is the regulated business using the infrastructure; an end customer assigned a virtual IBAN does not automatically become a Banking Circle client. The profile does not treat Banking Circle as a retail merchant acquirer: it does not provide card acquiring, a card merchant account, a card MID, a payment gateway or Merchant of Record services.

Cybersource

Cybersource, a Visa company, provides a global payment gateway and orchestration platform, Unified Checkout, REST payment APIs, Token Management Service, Decision Manager, payer authentication, payment reporting and card-network payout connectivity. Its standard gateway path connects the merchant to external processors and acquirers; those parties provide any merchant account or MID, perform merchant underwriting, hold funds and settle transactions. The production Cybersource or Visa counterparty is determined by the signed agreement and territory rather than the non-production Developer Center terms. A current United States card-services package uses a separate agreement with Global Payments Direct, Inc., while the Cybersource Payment Services Agreement remains separate.

The EBANX brand covers multiple group companies and local partners; the contracting entity, payment methods, settlement model and product availability depend on the merchant agreement and country. Decision brief

Separate customer-payout approval from the underlying obligation

Use this page when

The business needs a product explicitly offered for customer payouts and must resolve the funding account, transfer party, approved recipient type and rail.

  1. Purpose and parties

State why the recipient is owed money, who instructs the transfer and which legal entity contracts for that payout type.

  2. Funding control

Identify the source account, balance holder, prefunding rule, shortfall rights and event that makes funds available to send.

  3. Recipient outcome

Define what submitted, delivered, rejected and returned mean for the selected rail and how each result changes the ledger.

Confirm before sending production funds

  • Accepted payout purpose, recipient type, countries, currencies and limits
  • Funding source, transfer entity, any applicable regulatory role, cutoff, fees and FX method
  • Status events, duplicate controls, return handling and support escalation
01

Define the payout purpose and legal relationship

Describe why the business owes the recipient, who owns the source funds, who instructs the transfer, and which entity contracts with the provider. Customer withdrawals, account disbursements, insurance claims, refunds, and consumer remittances can follow different product and regulatory rules.

Do not infer a customer-payout route from merchant settlement, seller remittance, marketplace payouts, or acquiring. Confirm the exact offer, legal entity, account structure, eligible use case, recipient countries, currencies, and rails. The provider may perform the transfer, orchestrate external rails, or expose technology while another institution moves the money.

  • Payout sender, funding-account owner, and contracting entity
  • Recipient type and reason for payment
  • Provider, partner bank, card network, wallet, or local rail role
  • Countries, currencies, limits, and prohibited purposes
02

Confirm how funds enter the payout route

Ask whether payouts draw from collected merchant proceeds, a safeguarded or payment account, a prefunded balance, a bank account, or just-in-time funding. Record who holds the balance, when funds become available, whether the provider can debit a shortfall, and what happens when the account is frozen or closed.

In the United States, whether an activity is money transmission or fits a payment-processing exception depends on the facts and circumstances. A provider's general license statement does not decide the merchant's own role or cover every payout purpose. Confirm the regulated entity and legal analysis for the actual funds flow.

03

Design recipient onboarding and screening before launch

Specify which party collects and verifies the recipient's name, address, account, tax information, business identity, and payout purpose. Confirm validation rules by rail, how sensitive data is stored, who reviews exceptions, and whether the platform or provider can block or return a payout.

Sanctions and financial-crime controls should reflect the parties, countries, rails, timing, and risk of the program. Determine who screens senders, recipients, beneficial owners, banks, and in-process transactions, who resolves a match, and how evidence and decisions are retained.

Separate data collection from approval

A hosted onboarding form can collect recipient data without making the platform eligible, approving the recipient, or authorizing a payout. Record each decision owner separately.

Compare rail behavior, status, and failure handling

For each route, document submission cutoffs, business-day rules, expected delivery, finality, cancellation, beneficiary-name checks, required fields, local bank holidays, fees, FX rate source, and any intermediary deductions. A label such as instant or real time should be tested against the recipient bank and the final status available to the sender.

Map every status from created through accepted, submitted, delivered, rejected, returned, reversed, or cancelled. Ask how duplicate instructions are prevented, how webhooks are retried, when a failed payout can be resubmitted, and whether a return creates a usable balance or requires a separate reconciliation entry.

05

Reconcile the liability before increasing volume

Finance teams need to tie the business obligation to the funding debit, provider fee, FX conversion, rail reference, recipient credit, return, and ending balance. Request sample API responses, webhook events, balance reports, statements, and bank records for successful and failed payouts before committing to the integration.

Confirm prefunding thresholds, negative-balance treatment, and limits. Then check reserve or collateral rights, support escalation, data export, pending-payout handling, and account closure. A replacement provider does not resolve obligations already submitted through the old route, so the exit plan needs a tail for returns, complaints, and records.

FAQ

Common questions

Is a customer payout product the same as merchant settlement?

No. Merchant settlement pays proceeds from accepted transactions to the merchant. A customer payout product sends approved business funds to customers or other covered recipients under a separate account and approval structure. Marketplace seller payouts and Merchant of Record remittance are reviewed on their own pages.

Does a payout-provider listing mean the use case is approved?

No. The provider still needs to accept the sender, recipient type, purpose, countries, currencies, funding method, volume, and rails. Some routes also depend on a partner bank or network.

Does real-time payout mean the recipient has final funds?

Not always. Submission, network acceptance, recipient-bank posting, and final status can be different events. Ask what the status means for the exact rail and how returns or reversals are reported.

What should a payout reconciliation report contain?

It should connect the business obligation, payout instruction, funding debit, fees, FX, provider and rail references, recipient outcome, returns, and ending balance with stable identifiers.
